I think we've all been there whether we want to admit it or not.
"You are not enough!"
That's the nagging voice we hear in our thoughts. We push it away but it's always there. We can never reach that place when we feel confident that we've made it.
I know I have heard that voice all of my life. Even now I hear that voice. The voice that says I'm not enough at my job, being a husband or even being a believer. It is a pesky little thing that stays in our minds.
Let me tell you something that is fact: You ARE enough.
So we have to ask ourselves this question: whose opinion are we trying to measure up to?
Satan/Lucifer/the Devil - whatever you call him - is the originator of that voice. The Bible says that he is the "accuser" and a liar and the father of lies. Whether we attribute the lies in our head to him or not, it is there and if we listen to that voice then we will never be good enough. You will never get that ultimate job, promotion or magical amount in your bank account to satisfy that voice.
Some of you may attend a church which makes it nearly impossible to be enough to God. I know I once belonged to a church which had rules and doctrines as impossible goals to measure up our ability to be good enough to God. People and churches will try to tell you how to measure up, but the truth is that none of us are good enough outside of God.
You are God's creation. You ARE enough. You are unique. Don't let those voices tell you otherwise. You MEAN something to this world and to the people around you.
If you still believe that voice that you are not enough, you need to know that NOTHING separates you from God's love. The Message version puts it this way:
They kill us in cold blood because they hate you.
We’re sitting ducks; they pick us off one by one.
None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us." (Romans 8:31-39)
If there were any doubt that you or I aren't enough, then this should settle it.
Stop comparing yourself to others as a measuring stick. We all have different talents and abilities. Even if we never get the attention we may think we deserve, we can all contribute something.
You ARE enough!
