When You are Invisible, Ignored or Forgotten

Like most people, I fight my own personal battles in my mind and emotions.  One of those battles is that I often feel that I am forgotten, invisible or ignored.  There are times when this issue gives me more problems than others.  I have battled it for all of my life.

For some, this may seem silly to you.  I'm just being transparent here because I know that I am not alone.  Many others out there deal with the same issues.

Examples that immediately come to mind:

  • Being picked last for the team
  • Never getting my photo in the church camp annual
  • Not included in the group
  • Totally ignored or not even acknowledged
  • Making comments that are never heard
There are many other examples, but I think you can see what I'm talking about.  Over the years I have learned that people aren't intentionally DOING these things to me, but they still happen.  I don't know why this happens to me, but I try to make more of an effort to just be who I am.

Fortunately, in the times when I am facing these feelings of being overlooked, I go back to one of the first songs I learned in church as a child.  The song says, "Jesus loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so."

Knowing that I am not forgotten by God comforts me and averts my mind from the negative thoughts which begin to swirl in my mind.  Another Bible passage that goes even further tells me that NOTHING can separate us from God.  In Romans 8:38-39 it says:  "For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Now, that covers everything doesn't it?

If we ever feel that we are invisible to others or ignored, we can be totally assured in the fact that God is aware of us and He does not ignore us.  We matter to Him!  When we talk to Him, He isn't on his phone with His attention on something else.  If Jesus did have a smart phone, He would put it away and talk to us and engage us without distraction.

That is comforting to me and should be to you too.

Do I still have insecurities about being pushed to the side or ignored?  Yes but I have learned that when these thoughts and feelings come that I am aware that it is something I need to resolve and hopefully quickly.

Christian Music Artist Israel Houghton had a song titled "Friend of God" which states:

I am a friend of God He calls me friend
Who am I that You are mindful of me
That You hear me when I call
Is it true that You are thinking of me
How You love me it's amazing

God IS our friend and He never leaves us or forsakes us when we are invisible to others.  Even when the negative thoughts come, we have to fight through them and win these battles in our mind.
