Blessed Are The Moody

Lately I have been listening to the song "I'm So Blessed" by Cain.  I love the song and the lyrics that tell us that we are blessed everyday regardless of what happens to us.

"On my best day, I'm a child of God,
On my worst day, I'm a child of God."

It's easy to feel blessed on days when things are going your way and you're feeling good but it is quite a challenge when you're having the bad days.

I know that for me, I can be moody.  This is something I have to constantly work on.  I just have days when I'm just not in a good way.  Sometimes it's a physical issue or sometimes it is a day where I'm experiencing an emotional low.  I can tell you that on those days I certainly don't FEEL blessed but it's important that we understand that being blessed isn't based on how we feel.

A few months ago my wife and I were driving on an interstate highway when we hit a tire laying on the road.  Thankfully, I was able to steer our car off the road into the emergency lane.  It would be easy to THINK we weren't blessed because God allowed that to happen to us but we were thankful that the car didn't flip or hit anyone else on the road.  Yes, it was a pain to deal with the aftermath of that incident.  We spent a month with our car in the shop and driving a rental car but we managed and never fussed at God about it.

We can't base God's love on how we feel.  Our feelings changes from day-to-day but God's love is constant and not dependent on how we are feeling.  I will be honest that some days I feel totally worthless but I push through those days and realize that one day doesn't define me.  Hey, we all have bad days.  We can't let the bad days defeat us.   Our relationship with God goes beyond our human limitations.  I have known people who act like they can always stay "in the spirit" and give the impression that nothing bad happens to them because they float around quoting the King James Version of the Bible.  Trust me - even those people have bad days.  You can't always live heavenly-minded and not deal with the realities of life. It's those bad times that help us grow and appreciate the good times.

Romans 8:28 tells us that "all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose."  This means that everything we go through is working together for good.  Even when our problems add up, we can know that God is for us.  When we screw up, He still loves us and He can use it for good in our lives.

I'm glad He considers me his child on those days when I'm in a mood or totally out of it.  I need that assurance because some days it's just not easy being me.  My prayers aren't so great on those days if I even pray at all but I'm glad that God knows me.

He knows you too.  Being a believer doesn't mean you'll always be singing and quoting Bible verses everyday but it means you believe that God loves you and that you are His child on your best days and your worst days.

Because God loves you, you can show your trust in Him by talking about all your feelings and circumstances with Him — the good and hard — through prayer. Don’t let your emotions rule your life; bring them to God so He can help you address them. He is not disappointed or frustrated by your struggles, doubts or pain. He cares about you, and you can trust Him with those things.
